Delhi (NCT)

  • Legal Drinking Age: Set at 25 years under the Delhi Excise Act, 2009 (Section 23); lowered to 21 in 2021, but reverted back to 25 in April 2025 per the latest excise policy updates.
  • Public Drinking: Illegal; establishments must verify government-issued IDs physically.
  • Drink & Drive Rules: Legal BAC limit is 30 mg/100 ml (0.03%) under the Motor Vehicles Act, with fines up to ₹10,000 and/or 6 months jail for first offense and up to ₹15,000 and/or 2 years for repeat offenders—applicable uniformly across India.
  • Drinker Rights: BNSS (formerly known as CrPC) rights; legal representation.
  • Welfare / Support: De-addiction via state health department & MSJE.
